Buyer -  Automotive Manufacturing Business

Near Wolverhampton (WV10 area)
£38,000 + benefits
39 hours per week | Early Friday finish | 1 day Hybrid after probation

A well-established automotive manufacturing business is seeking a Buyer to join its purchasing team at a busy production plant near Wolverhampton.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-volume manufacturing environment, supporting both production and new project introduction while driving supplier performance and cost improvements.

The Buyer Role

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for the procurement of materials to support ongoing production and new project activity. You will work closely with engineering, production and project teams to ensure materials are sourced cost-effectively and delivered in line with project timelines.

Key Buyer responsibilities include:

  • Procuring materials at the most cost-effective price while maintaining supply continuity

  • Supporting new product introduction and project timelines from a purchasing perspective

  • Managing supplier performance and contributing to supplier development initiatives

  • Supporting cost reduction and value improvement projects

  • Maintaining supplier information and approved supplier lists

  • Coordinating purchasing activities across internal departments

  • Monitoring project costs and identifying cost drivers

  • Ensuring purchasing processes align with company and quality standards

The role may involve working with suppliers across the UK and internationally.

Candidate Requirements

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Previous purchasing or procurement experience within automotive or high-volume manufacturing

  • Experience of supplier negotiation and cost management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally

  • HNC (or similar) in business, engineering or a related discipline is desirable

  • Studying toward CIPS / MCIPS would be advantageous

A full driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally may be required.

Working Hours & Benefits

  • 39 hours per week

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm

  • Friday: 8:00am – 1:00pm

  • Opportunity to work one day per week from home once established in the role
