Quality Manager
Our client is a well-established West Midlands manufacturer and distributor operating in the fire safety sector, supplying the fire trade and construction industries across the UK. They’re a close-knit, hands-on SME with a strong culture and a stable, long-tenured team. Due to the planned retirement of their current quality professional, they’re now looking for the right person to take full ownership of the quality function.
Summary of the Quality Manager Role
This is a full-time, permanent position with genuine autonomy. You’ll inherit a well-maintained, fully functional ISO 9001 QMS and be trusted to run it, develop it, and put your own stamp on it. Reporting directly to the MD, you’ll be the sole quality resource — working closely with production supervisors and the workshop manager to drive quality standards from the shop floor up. There is also a clear growth path, with the business planning to pursue the EN54 standard in the near future — giving the right candidate a significant compliance project to lead.
Key responsibilities of the Quality Manager
• Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 9001 QMS • Manage all quality documentation, version control, and process changes • Conduct regular floor-level quality inspections across production • Lead internal audits and manage external certification audits • Investigate and resolve non-conformances • Chair and prepare materials for management review meetings • Manage product compliance — CE marking and UKCA certification • Oversee IP testing and liaise with external test houses • Maintain environmental compliance records (WEEE, ERP packaging returns) • Support future implementation of EN54
The Quality Manager we’re looking for will
• Have proven experience managing an ISO 9001 QMS in a manufacturing environment • Be confident conducting quality inspections and driving corrective actions • Be experienced in internal and external auditing • Be familiar with CE marking, UKCA, and product compliance processes • Have the mindset of an influencer, not an enforcer — someone who takes people with them • Be comfortable as a sole quality professional in a busy SME • Fire safety or industrial sector experience is a bonus, not a requirement
Additional Information
• Position is on site • 40 hour weeks with flexibility on how those hours are worked • 25 days holiday allowance
This Quality Manager role would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on in a manufacturing environment, taking full ownership of quality, and working closely with production teams to maintain and improve standards.
