Quality Engineer —  Mansfield, Nottinghamshire | Competitive Salary + Car Allowance + 25 Days Holiday Hybrid Working | Permanent

A market leading business supplying bespoke retail fixtures, fittings and shopfitting solutions to major UK retailers is looking for a Quality Engineer to join a growing product team based near Mansfield.

This is a hands-on quality role with genuine variety, sitting at the heart of how products are inspected, tested and signed off before they reach the shop floor. If you've ever walked around a major supermarket or high street retailer and looked at the shelving, display units, entry systems and shopfitting around you, you'll have a good idea of the kind of products you'd be working on.

What the role involves

You'll be responsible for quality inspection and testing across a busy and varied product pipeline, checking finished articles against specification, conducting spot checks on ongoing supply and getting out to manufacturer sites to assess quality at source.

Day to day you could be involved in:

  • Inspecting products for quality of welding, paint finish, woodwork, fastenings and surface finish
  • Building and running physical tests including topple testing, weight loading, push and pull
  • Developing and documenting test methods in line with relevant British Standards
  • Visiting manufacturers to check quality at source and provide direct feedback
  • Supporting the team in building out quality processes within a young and growing department
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously across a busy and varied pipeline

What we're looking for

You'll need a practical, hands-on background with a good eye for product quality at finished article level. Ideally you'll have worked in an environment where the end product is something used by the general public, whether that's retail, consumer goods, leisure or similar. Heavy industry or process manufacturing backgrounds are less likely to be the right fit here.

Specifically we're looking for:

  • A solid understanding of physical product construction — metal, wood, paint finishes, welding types, fastenings and fixings
  • Familiarity with British Standards for furniture, fixtures or similar products, or the ability to get up to speed quickly
  • Practical experience of physical product testing
  • Confidence visiting supplier sites and giving clear feedback on quality
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects at once
  • Motivated by building something from scratch rather than inheriting a fully formed setup

Formal quality qualifications such as ISO or Six Sigma are not essential. Product knowledge, practical ability and the right attitude matter far more.

What's on offer

A competitive salary, car allowance, 25 days holiday and hybrid working within a business that is genuinely investing in its quality capability. This is an early opportunity to join a growing team and help shape how things are done.
