Quality Technician, Wolverhampton, up to £35,000 with shift allowance

Brellis Recruitment is supporting a leading automotive manufacturer with the recruitment of two Quality Technicians to join their site in Wolverhampton. This is a hands on quality role on the shop floor, ideal for someone with a manufacturing or engineering background who wants a stable career in a quality function.

What's on offer

  • £30,436 basic salary (£16.04 per hour)
  • 15% shift allowance on top, taking earnings to approximately £35,000
  • 36.5 hours per week
  • Rotating 3 shift pattern
  • Permanent position with a clear route to progress to a more senior Technician level

The role

As Quality Technician you will be responsible for the quality assurance of customer product, reporting to the Quality Engineer. You will be the first line of defence on the shop floor, making sure product leaving the site meets customer requirements.

  • Carry out regular product and process audits, feeding back findings and taking appropriate action
  • Make sure shift operators follow the quality elements of the Standard Operating Procedures
  • Identify product and process non-conformances and suggest improvements
  • Visually inspect and check product against defect catalogues and gauge instructions, including weld inspection
  • Carry out testing of product, including torque, push out and leak tests, and assist with laboratory testing
  • Understand and interpret metrology reports
  • Implement and close temporary containment activities, and sentence parts held in intervention bins
  • Raise quality alerts and supplier corrective action requests (SCARs)
  • Communicate quality data to the manufacturing teams and help drive improvements
  • Support team based problem solving using structured techniques
  • Support the Quality Engineers in resolving customer and internal concerns
  • Deliver team briefs to individuals and small groups

About you

  • Ideally educated to a ONC level in an engineering related discipline, and willing to progress to HNC (a recognised apprenticeship is ideal)
  • Experience in a quality function within a fast moving manufacturing environment, ideally metal forming or fabrication
  • Good working knowledge of basic quality tools and techniques, such as Ishikawa, Pareto charts, histograms and scatter diagrams
  • Comfortable with numerical data, with a good eye for fault finding and problem solving
  • Confident, self motivated and proactive, with good interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Able to cope with the pressures of a demanding manufacturing environment and willing to work a rotating 3 shift pattern
